Finishing a 12ft x 15ft Drywall Room

You have hung drywall in a bedroom with 400 square feet of total wall and ceiling boards. Calculate the joint compound and tape rolls required.

1. Step 1: Estimate mud: 400 sq ft × 0.053 gal/sq ft ≈ 21.2 lbs of mud, which corresponds to roughly 1.8 gallons of wet joint compound.
2. Step 2: Estimate joint tape needed: Tape rule is 1.5 feet of tape per square foot of drywall. 400 sq ft × 1.5 ft/sq ft = 600 feet of tape.
3. Step 3: Convert tape to rolls: A standard paper roll is 250 feet. 600 / 250 = 2.4 rolls. Buy 3 rolls of drywall tape.
